Living near a nuclear power plant does not increase the risk of childhood leukemia, according findings from the United Kingdom's Committee on Medical Aspects of Radiation in the Environment (http://tinyurl.com/6kogpkb). The group's scientists found only 20 cases of childhood leukemia from 1969 to 2004 in children younger than 5 years who lived within a 5-km radius of the 13 nuclear sites located in England, Scotland, and Wales (none are in Northern Ireland).
