In Reply: Dr Morris asks about IRB approval and the number of eligible patients for this trial. Institutional review board approval was granted without any problem; previous retrospective studies had both positive and negative conclusions, and the question addressed by our trial clearly was unresolved. The number of eligible patients actually was 146. However, since patients were entered into the study only after they had had surgery and a clean postoperative magnetic resonance imaging scan, the number of eligible patients was less than the total number of patients diagnosed as having single brain metastases.
