To the Editor: The article by Drs Eysenbach and Diepgen1 raises the important issue of how physicians should handle e-mail from persons with whom there is no established patient-physician relationship. Eysenbach and Diepgen correctly point out that recent guidelines on e-mail use2 ignore the circumstance of e-mail contact when no patient-physician relationship has been established, and calls for development of such guidelines.
