In Reply: I disagree with Dr Gross' suggestion that he did not engage in directive counseling and that such claims distort the process he described.1 His article begins with the statement, "A program for early selection [italics added] and treatment of the infant with myelomeningocele was developed. . . ." He describes 33 infants, "for whom only supportive care was recommended [italics added]."
