In Reply: I appreciate the Presidential Advisory Council's strong stand for reform of current CDC guidelines on HIV-infected health care workers. If CDC guidelines focused more on attaining a safe health care environment and less on health care workers as vectors of disease, patients and health care workers would benefit. Adoption of this kind of proposal would actually decrease risks to patients by encouraging health care workers to be tested and treated and to follow strict infection control techniques.
