To the Editor: The relationship between physicians and the pharmaceutical industry has recently gained increasing attention. For instance, some have questioned the customary practice of physicians accepting gifts in exchange for listening to a promotional message.1 There appears to be a correlation between this type of pharmaceutical detailing and physicians' prescribing behavior,13 which may account for the pharmaceutical industry's tremendous budget devoted to detailing activities.
