To the Editor: Dr Silverman and colleagues1 reported that PET scan results were predictive of progression of dementia.Dementia has important psychological and neurological components. Labeling by means of advanced technology may exacerbate cognitive decline, confuse the search for reversible causes of dementia, and serve as "objective" evidence to deprive patients of their independence inappropriately.
