The public can now download, free of charge, all PDF versions of books from the National Academies of Science, including the Institute of Medicine, that have been published by the National Academies Press (NAP). A current catalog of more than 4000 books can be accessed to search for PDF files on the Academies' Web site (http://www.nap.edu/). Future reports produced by the NAP will also be available.
The NAP produces more than 200 books each year on a wide range of topics in science, engineering, and health. Its mission is to disseminate the institutions' content as widely as possible while maintaining financial sustainability. Previously, all PDFs were free to download in developing countries and 65% of them were available for free to any user.
