Persons with intellectual disability constitute approximately 2% of the population. They die prematurely and often have a number of unrecognized or poorly managed medical conditions as well as inadequate health promotion and preventions.1

As anyone who has had responsibility for the health care for the intellectually disabled will attest, this book—one of a series of books initiated by the Association for the Improvement of Mental Health Programmes—is a needed resource. The contributors are an international group, and the chapters show that comorbidity is a worldwide issue.
