Animal Antibiotic Use

The Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture have made limited progress in collecting data on antibiotic use in animals raised for food that can contribute to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, according to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report released September 14 (http://tinyurl.com/3zdtaqk). Researchers need such data to examine antibiotic use trends and to understand the relationship between use and resistance.
