A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.—Josh Billings (1818-1885)

Mr Jones (not his real name) was an 82-year-old man admitted with a diagnosis of recurrent pituitary adenoma. While not a fast-growing tumor, it was one that would occupy more space as time progressed and eventually take his life. A veteran of World War II, he had been a prisoner of war in Germany, not a pretty place to be if you were a Jewish soldier, which he was. However, he recounted very little of his former days as a prisoner other than varied comments regarding the soup he was served on a daily basis: an anemic concoction of sawdust and water. And although he devoutly attended a prisoner-of-war support group, he never let his horrible days as a prisoner cynically color his outlook on life.
