This work is termed a "compend," but it is a most extensive one indeed. While it is dedicated by the authors to students, practitioners and young otolaryngologists, it will really serve the experienced otolaryngologist as well. All historical references except the most recent ones are omitted. The book covers almost every condition in ear, nose and throat work and diseases of the trachea and esophagus. It is surprising to note with what completeness the subject of the functional testing of hearing, testing of the vestibular apparatus, and detailed operative procedures of the ear, nose and throat are given. Every subject is systematically arranged and treated with the clarity that is characteristic of most French writings. There are numerous illustrations, which are simple and instructive. In a word, this is a veritable "multum in parvo," the reading of which will well repay every one interested in otolaryngology. The lack of bibliography
