This is a reprint of a lecture delivered by Sellheim on the subject of gymnastics and its effects on women. He points out not only the benefits derived from properly directed athletic activities but also the harm that results from the various sports. He discusses the effects of different forms of exercise in all phases of a woman's life beginning with childhood and progressing through adolescence, early womanhood, pregnancy, the puerperium and the menopause. One of the things of interest to obstetricians is the author's description of exercises that restore the tonicity and appearance of the abdominal wall after delivery. There are many beautiful illustrations.
