This presents a concise description of the microscopic structure of the body. There are numerous black and white illustrations, the great majority being originals, some of which have been frequently borrowed by other authors from earlier editions of Branca's textbook. A better grade of paper would show them to better advantage. The text has been brought down to date and includes most of the important advances in histology and the attempts to correlate known functions with the minute structure of the organs. Because of the relatively brief text, many questions are answered with a positiveness which does not reflect the actual state of existing knowledge. The new chapters on the living cell and the trends in histologic investigation are quite interesting. The volume constitutes a concise, accurate, modern textbook of histology.
