This is a remarkably fine volume in a field that has seen rather rapid change over the past decade. The editor is well qualified to draw together the comments on changes in the various fields of children's surgery. The book shows that there is really very little difference between the practice of this specialty in America and in our sister country of Great Britain. One of the great merits is that Dr. Wilkinson has drawn heavily upon the British literature for his comments and bibliography, making the volume particularly valuable to American readers. The early chapter on clinical genetics opens up a field which has come to the fore only in the last five to eight years. Dr. Wilkinson's own treatment of neonatal metabolism is exceptionally good, since this is his field of special interest.
