A report released on July 16 by Sen Tom Harkin (D, Iowa), chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions and the Senate author of the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act, shows that overall, employment outcomes for people with disabilities have not improved since the act was passed. As of June, just 32.1% of working-age people with disabilities were in the labor force, compared with 77.7% of those without disabilities, the report said. Between July 2008 and December 2010, while 2.1% of workers without a disability left the labor force, 10.4% of those with disabilities left (http://tinyurl.com/729e5o4).
