Sick Leave Benefits

JAMA. 2012;308(12):1198. doi:10.1001/2012.jama.12016

Employees with access to paid sick leave are less likely to experience a nonfatal injury at work, according to a study by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Previously, studies have found that employees with paid sick time recover more quickly and have fewer complications from minor illnesses or other health concerns, the authors noted. Paid sick leave may also reduce the spread of illness in the community by allowing employees to stay home when they or their loved ones are ill.
