To the Editor: The study by Dr Carnethon and colleagues1 found that adults with type 2 diabetes and normal weight had higher mortality, in particular noncardiovascular mortality, than those who were overweight or obese. The contrasting clinical phenotypes of diabetes in lean or normal-weight persons compared with obese persons have been discussed.2
