It was tough, at first,
to let you in. My adult skin, the evidence
of hurt, repair and burying
the evidence. The frenzied overgrowth
around old burns incarcerated memories,
a black bind
left me fumbling for free nerve ends.
Opening the cells, again,
released lovers I had burned. How quick
the blood returned. My pores
betrayed me, let words escape
much pinker than I wanted.
