Eleven years after Utah's last measles outbreak, state and local health departments in 2011 reported 2 outbreaks with 13 confirmed cases.

The first confirmed case, an unvaccinated 16-year-old patient in Salt Lake County, was traced to an unvaccinated classmate who had developed a rash, cough, coryza, and conjunctivitis 2 weeks earlier after traveling in Europe. Two additional students in the same school and 3 family members also developed measles.
