Fungal Infections Extend Beyond Pacific Northwest Outbreak Region

JAMA. 2013;310(18):1913. doi:10.1001/jama.2013.280679

According to a report in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases, 25 C gattii infections have occurred in 8 states outside of the outbreak region since 2009. Because these cases have a different genetic pattern and distinct clinical symptoms, researchers said it’s unlikely that the more recent cases are related to the outbreak.
