Financial Incentives Appear to Boost Electronic Health Record Use

JAMA. 2013;310(23):2496. doi:10.1001/jama.2013.283436

An increasing number of hospitals and health care professionals are taking advantage of federal incentive payments that reward incorporation of electronic health records (EHRs) into practice settings, reports the Government Accountability Office (GAO).

The GAO report, released October 24, found that approximately $6.3 billion in these EHR incentive payments were awarded in 2012, almost 3 times the $2.3 billion awarded in 2011 (http://1.usa.gov/1cg4KKR).
