Wireless Risks

JAMA. 2008;299(8):890. doi:10.1001/jama.299.8.890-b

Studies of the potential long-term health effects of regular exposure to radiofrequency energy emitted by cellular phones and other wireless communication devices are needed, according to a new report by the National Research Council (http://www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=12036).

The report noted that while much research on the acute effects of cellular phone radiofrequency exposure in otherwise healthy adults has been done in the past several years, determining whether individuals who use cellular phones and other wireless communication devices experience cumulative effects is important. Additionally, some groups, such as children, may be more vulnerable to adverse effects.
