Ocular Traumatology

JAMA. 2008;299(18):2211-2212. doi:10.1001/jama.299.18.2211

Traumatology is defined as the study of wounds and injuries caused by accidents or violence to a person and the surgical therapy and repair of the damage. In Ocular Traumatology, editor Ferenc Kuhn focuses specifically on trauma to the eyeball; this is contrasted to “ophthalmic traumatology,” which he defines as trauma to the ocular adnexa. In formulating this text, Kuhn draws on his considerable hands-on experience in the field in addition to tapping into the expertise of 9 other ophthalmologists with experience in the treatment of ocular trauma. The contributor list helpfully includes e-mail addresses for all of the contributors.
