La TormentaGronk

JAMA. 2014;311(6):554-555. doi:10.1001/jama.2013.279320

La Tormenta is a character created by the American artist Gronk (1954-   ) for a series of paintings and performances. She is a composite of many roles: the glamorous spy played by Ingrid Bergman in the film Notorious; Electra, the mythical princess who mourns her father; St Rose of Lima, who scarred her face to be less beautiful; and Patssi Valdez, a teenaged girl from East Los Angeles dressed in thrift store finery for a movie without film. In Gronk’s 1994 woodcut, Tormenta parts the curtains and sees trouble on the horizon.
