Fear of Falling? There’s an App for That

JAMA. 2014;311(6):566. doi:10.1001/jama.2014.241

Climbing an extension ladder that isn’t safely propped against a wall or the side of a building can be a recipe for falling. But now the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers a free smartphone application to help prevent such falls.

The ladder safety app provides sight, sound, and vibration signals to help anyone from do-it-yourself homeowners to trade professionals quickly position an extension ladder at the optimal angle. The application also provides graphic-oriented interactive reference materials, safety guidelines, and checklists for extension ladder selection, inspection, accessorizing, and use. Its features also make the application a convenient training tool.
