House Committee Change

A change in leadership of the House Energy and Commerce Committee could affect federal health care programs and the health care industry.

House Democrats elected Rep Henry Waxman (D, Calif) by a vote of 137-122 to replace Rep John D. Dingell (D, Mich), the second longest serving representative and the top Democrat on the committee for 28 years. Waxman's ascent raised eyebrows on Capitol Hill in that seniority is typically emphasized in committee leadership.
