by the American College of Physicians, one CD-ROM, for Macintosh or Windows, $195 members, Philadelphia, Pa, American College of Physicians, 1997.
The ACP Library on Disk is a CD-ROM that combines a database, clinical practice guidelines, preventive medicine guidelines, common diagnostic strategies, and recommended screening guidelines. These would be adequate for most programs, but ACP Library on Disk also includes the MKSAP 10 (Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program) with an excellent search engine.
The program installed with ease using Windows 95. With the autoenable feature available, inserting the CD leads to simple instructions. Five icons appear on the desktop: (1) ACP Library on Disk; (2) MS, a program giving all the information on your computer, such as amount of memory and hard disk availability; (3) a Readme file allowing the reader to purchase and register the disk; (4) an Uninstall option; and (5) VWR or viewer's help file, an online guide to using the disk.
