Nutrition and Physical Activity offers an overview on health information activities related to nutrition and physical activity projects conducted in European countries and initiated between 1990 and 2006. Much of the data from the various projects were collected using different methods. Most of these research activities were initiated because nutrition and physical activity are lifestyle-related risk factors for many noncommunicable health problems such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and osteoporosis. Obesity and overweight affect all age groups in the population but differently. The objective of these projects was to continue the work on specific status indicators to complete the listing of European Community Health Indicators that will serve as a basis for the European Health Information System. The projects investigated the indicators for nutrition and physical activity that should be monitored for nutrition-related health outcomes. The 5 editors are all reputable public health experts. The book is of interest to primarily European public health, health promotion, international health and disease prevention, and occupational health professionals as well as policy makers.
