I would like to introduce the Women's & Children's Health Management Organization (HMO). This is a new concept that originated in my mind and has come to semifruition with the writing of this piece. Fruition is just around the corner, if I might borrow an econometric religious phrase. The concept is fairly straightforward (I always cringe when someone tells me something is straightforward . . . because if something is in fact straightforward there is absolutely no need to prematurely announce its straightforwardness). It involves enrolling all women and children who are younger than 40 years or menopausal, whichever comes earliest in women or children. Statistics show that postmenopausal women die at a much higher rate than premenopausal women, so why not go with a winner? Particularly if we want to keep premiums down.
