Aid Workers Face More Complex Hurdles

Chicago—On a particularly frigid winter afternoon, Nicolas de Torrente, PhD, is heartened by growing campus interest in international humanitarianism. The previous evening, de Torrente, as outgoing US executive director of the humanitarian medical group Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF, or Doctors Without Borders), gave a keynote talk in Evanston, Ill, at Northwestern University's Conference on Human Rights, which boasts being the largest US human rights conference organized and attended by undergraduate students.
