An error crept into the otherwise very thoughtful review of Polio, by Drs Thomas M. Daniel and Frederick C. Robbins (JAMA, February 25, 1998). The name of the 2-year-old Peruvian boy who was the last person to acquire wild-type poliomyelitis in the Western hemisphere in August 1991 is Luis Fermin.1 He resided in the town of Pichinaki, Junin, Peru and his illness was due to type 1 poliovirus.2,3
