The field of radiation oncology, developing at the intersection of radiology and oncology, rapidly evolves because of the feverish pace of development of new imaging modalities as well as the brisk rate of progress of oncologic basic science and clinical research. As a result, the field today is drastically different than it was 21 years ago, when the first edition of Perez and Brady's Principles and Practice of Radiation Oncology was published. Since then, this text has been one of the most reliable references in the field of radiation oncology.
