edited by Jennifer Leaning, quarterly (as of 1999), $12.50 ($22.50 outside United States and Canada) for 1998, $25 ($45 outside United States and Canada) as of 1999, also available at no cost at http://www.healthnet.org/MGS, Cambridge, Mass, Medicine and Global Survival, Inc, 1994— (continues The PSR Quarterly).
Although not strictly a new journal, Medicine and Global Survival (M & GS) has some important and innovative new features that merit review. The journal actually started in 1991 as PSR Quarterly (Physicians for Social Responsibility), and in 1994 changed its title and sponsorship to M & GS as the official journal of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW). Over the past two years (1996 and 1997), the paid subscription print version ceased publication and was replaced by a free, entirely electronic version accessible only via the World Wide Web. Interestingly, it appears this experiment was not entirely successful: the editors have just announced the reintroduction of the paid subscription print version, in addition to the free Web version. The reviewers only examined the Web version of M & GS. Only two print issues will be published in 1998 before resuming quarterly publication in 1999.
