Dr Cassileth is a well-published and respected authority in the field of unconventional cancer therapies. In this book, she successfully distills over 20 years of research into one easy-to-read volume. The Alternative Medicine Handbook has seven sections, generally organized in categories recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Alternative Medicine: (1) traditional healing methods, (2) dietary and herbal remedies, (3) mind-body techniques, (4) biological treatments, (5) bodywork, (6) use of the senses to enhance health, and (7) external energy healing. In a circular reference to Cassileth's influence in the field, it is worth mentioning that she cocreated these categories as a participant in the Unconventional Medical Practices Workshop of 1992.
