Naval Medical Center scientists in San Diego are working on a technique involving experimental cross-membrane delivery of antioxidants into inner ear fluid via a portable dosage-control pump and microcatheter. This is in an effort, said to be promising, to restore some hearing to patients with noise-induced hearing loss and perhaps even to prevent it from happening. Also, using different pharmaceuticals, the investigators are applying this method experimentally to treat Meniere disease.
