Measles Vaccination Campaigns Boost Coverage, Save Lives

JAMA. 2014;311(11):1102. doi:10.1001/jama.2014.2035

Stepped-up efforts to vaccinate children against measles worldwide prevented an estimated 13.8 million deaths from the disease between 2000 and 2012, according to a recent analysis (Perry RT et al. MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2014;63[5]:103-107).

Data gathered by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund showed that global measles vaccine coverage among 1-year old children increased from 73% in 2000 to 84% in 2009 and remained steady through 2012.
