The proliferation of medical journals assures that much dross is published annually, and perhaps because I seek out rheumatologically oriented articles, I have the impression that this phenomenon is even more common in rheumatology. The editors of this Yearbook, therefore, have performed a major service in selecting articles that advance the specialty and deserve recognition or rebuttal. They are a literate and erudite group, if often grammatically disadvantaged, and the result of their labors and insights should—and can—be read with appreciation and pleasure by anyone interested in the field. Their healthy skepticism, moreover, permits them to be fair in their choices and appraisals.
