State-of-the-art microscopy systems have enabled researchers in Israel to observe for the first time how gallstones begin to form.

"Our research aims to answer why and how gallstones form so that physicians can direct their efforts toward inhibiting the process at the onset through medication and dietary changes," said Yeshayahu Talmon, PhD, a chemical engineer at the Technion–Israel Institute of Technology, who collaborated with Fred Konikoff, MD, of Tel Aviv University Medical School.
