To the Editor: Dr Finucane and colleagues1 claim that tube feeding of patients with advanced dementia is a "widespread practice." Fortunately, this is a claim that I cannot make for my community. Mine is a geriatric practice, which includes a dedicated dementia unit at a local nursing home. Although tube feeding is often discussed with families, I cannot recall the last time this intervention was even seriously considered in such a patient.
