This volume contains 10 research papers presented at a National Bureau of Economic Research conference and includes comments from a number of conference participants. Many of the papers represent interdisciplinary work from physicians, sociologists, or epidemiologists collaborating with economists.

The focus on quality comparison makes this book of potential interest to physicians. Five of the papers are concerned with the measurement of quality and provide methodological details that are very useful for physicians involved in research in quality of care within institutions and programs.
