Every one of us, as Susan Sontag perceptively pointed out in her 1978 book Illness as Metaphor, holds dual citizenship in the kingdom of the well and in the kingdom of the sick. Ms Wierzbicki, editor and one of the eight authors in this well-named book, has chosen for it the work of writers chiefly published until now in so-called little magazines such as Mudfish, Poetry Motel, and Long Shot. Many of the authors are reporting from the kingdom of the sick.
