The FDA is accepting applications for grant awards to support clinical trials of the safety and effectiveness of orphan products (drugs, biologics, medical devices, and medical foods) for treatment or diagnosis of diseases or conditions with fewer than 200 000 patients in the United States. The studies should provide the FDA with acceptable data that will substantially contribute to the approval of new products, or new indications for already marketed products. Due date for the receipt of grant applications is March 5, 2002.
