Human medical genetics is a hot discipline in many academic medical centers, with hundreds of millions of dollars being invested in research throughout the world. At the same time, the topic is being discussed in ethics classes and coming before government bodies as an area for potential regulation. It is a subject that will continue to engender passionate debate about the role of science in society. This new journal, however, confines itself almost entirely to reporting the research that is currently being conducted and the possible clinical applications of that research.
