The recent national census has made clear that dramatic changes are occurring in the population of the United States. Some are the effects of migration, others the result of the aging of the baby boomer generation. The latter changes make the publication of Principles and Practice of Geriatric Surgery, edited by Ronnie A. Rosenthal, MD, Michael E. Zenilman, MD, and Mark R. Katlic, MD, very timely. While the textbook is directed at geriatric surgery, it contains information that will be useful to most medical specialists who care for adults.
