This third edition of the classic three-volume set edited by Stephen J. Ryan simply titled Retina is the most complete description of the development, structure, function, pathophysiology, and treatment of the retina and its diseases to be found anywhere.
The monumental task of compiling and updating this information could not be accomplished by one individual. Each of the three separate volumes has its own set of editors. Volume 1 has two sections: "Basic Science and Inherited Retinal Disease," edited by Thomas E. Ogden and David R. Hinton, and "Tumors," edited by Andrew P. Schachat. Volume 2, "Medical Retina," is also under the editorial direction of Dr Schachat. Volume 3, "Surgical Retina," is edited by C. P. Wilkinson. Contributing 156 chapters are 213 internationally recognized leaders in visual science, ophthalmology, and vitreoretinal surgery.
