Dr Joseph Murray is one of the most significant figures in 20th-century medicine: a master surgeon and the only plastic surgeon awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. During his distinguished career, he has made important contributions to the fields of plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, and transplant surgery. In his autobiography Surgery of the Soul, Murray takes us on an inspiring journey through his career, from the World War II field hospital at Valley Forge, Pa, to the surgical oncology ward at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City, to the operating room and laboratory at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, Mass.
