The FDA's Nonprescription and Gastrointestinal Drugs Advisory Committees will hold a meeting on June 21 to consider proposed over-the-counter use of Prilosec (omeprazole magnesium, AstraZeneca LP/Procter and Gamble) for the prevention of symptoms of frequent heartburn. The committees will consider whether OTC buyers are likely to use the drug preventively rather than to seek immediate relief, an indication for which it is not effective. The meeting will take place at Holiday Inn in Bethesda, Md; telephone (301) 652-2000. For more information, call Sandra Titus, PhD, at (301) 827-7001.
