Dr Richard S. Weiner has again brought together multiple members of the American Academy of Pain Management to author the sixth edition of Pain Management: A Practical Guide for Clinicians. Similar to previous editions, this multidisciplinary text represents a more varied perspective than do single specialty texts. However, with the text oversized at 1138 pages and giving equal weight to topics such as "Primary Headache Disorders" (11 pages) and questionably useful ones, such as "Energetic Medicine" (17 pages), "practical" is not the adjective I would have chosen. The book, though, is an interesting guide, containing more chapters on alternative pain management approaches than traditionally found in most medical texts.
