In Reply: I agree with Drs Burton and Arens that there are many biological, psychological, and surgical options available for treating older patients with chronic pain, and all should be exhausted before concluding that religion or prayer is the only solution. However, it is the spiritual approach that is most often overlooked,1 and hence the focus of my article.
